20th Anniversary Celebration

COMMON COUNSEL CELEBRATES 20-YEARS OF PROGRESSIVE PHILANTHROPY

On Friday, September 12th, 2008 we celebrated our 20-year history of social change philanthropy, and reaffirmed our longstanding commitment to support community-based organizations in the struggle for justice.  We also took the opportunity to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Abelard Foundation and honor its founders who established Common Counsel Foundation in 1988: Susan and Albert Wells, and Joel and Albert Schreck.  The event saw broad attendance by friends and colleagues in progressive philanthropy, community organizations and grantees, CCF member fund trustees, and alumni from the Windcall and Mesa Refuge residency programs.

Over our twenty-year history, Common Counsel is honored to have distributed more than $20.25 million in grants in partnership with our member funds.  We have also recruited and placed over 900 outstanding community organizers and innovative writers through the Windcall and Mesa Refuge residency programs.

We would like to sincerely thank all those who came out to support Common Counsel and all those who helped make the event a great success!
